The Story

Sometimes it's not really about how long it takes for you to get there, it's more the fact you get there in the end that is important!  This is something that Trudy and Dean have learnt with their little fella Cosmo.

It started off just like many other stories... they fell in love with a cute puppy six years ago - "a Border Collie / Huntaway cross who we named Cosmo" says Trudy. 
Of course, not knowing much about dogs, when they were given a bag of dry food and told they must continue to feed their puppy that, they didn't question it.

Cosmo continued to grow and be a happy puppy, but after about 8 months, he started to develop skin rashes.  "At first we thought it was a heat rash but even in cooler months he would get it".  So a trip to the vet was decided and they were told that a food allergy was probably the cause.  Cosmo's dry food was then switched to dog roll.

After a year or two on only dog roll, they began to understand why Cosmo was starting to turn his nose up at dinner times.  "Yes the rashes did improve slightly but I was starting to worry about what feeding him just the same old dog roll was doing to him too.  After all it doesn't need to be kept in the fridge and is full of preservatives, grains etc" says Trudy.

Trudy and Dean began to experiment with his meals and started feeding him basically whatever meat they ate.  Of course he was still getting some of the dog roll as their minds were set that by doing so they were doing the best by him.

After talking to the guys at Woofles, Trudy was more confident that they were doing the right thing by giving Cosmo more raw meat and less of the dog roll, she even tried out a few different types of meat.  Over time they were surprised to see that not only was Cosmo more interested in his meals but he didn't seem to be getting the rashes any more.  They continued this way for about a year until it got to the point that he was eating dog roll less and less.  "To us it was a break through, Cosmo was, or to us seemed to be in good health".  After talking to Chris and Shane some more, they began to wonder why they were even bothering to add the dog roll.  He go so little of it anyway, and obviously the raw food was doing more good.

"We have always been careful with what we eat, why shouldn't we take just as much care with what we are feeding the dog."

"Well it's only been about three months since they switched to a sole raw food diet for Cosmo and they are already seeing great changes.  The main areas of change are his teeth are really clean, no bad breathe, we thought his coat looked good before, well not it really shines and doesn't smell much either (Oh so that wasn't just normal doggy smell before?)  His body shape seems to have changed - for the better I might add.  What we thought were normal LARGE soft dog poo's have noe become far smaller amounts that have NO smell and seem to turn white over time and crumble away.  Yippy, less often scooping up the poo!  Don't think we've seen a flea on him either.  And last but not least..... HE DOESN'T GET RASHES ANYMORE!!!!!"

"It really was so simple and it's such an easy way to feed with great benefits that I can't understand why I didn't do it sooner" says Trudy "BUT like I said at the beginning - its not about how long it takes for you to get there, it's more the fact you get there in the end that is important!

Overview

Old dogs obviously can learn new tricks. Lachy's owner never really gave much thought to the fact that he could no longer jump up on the couch, but she did hate the way he would sit under the table staring while she ate her food because he wanted to share it.

Now after a couple of months of being on a Woofles Raw Food diet, Lachy is jumping onto the couch again, and no longer cares what his human is eating, his food means more to him.

Client Background

Meet Lachy, an 11 year old Maltese, and his owner Beulah. Lachy has always been fed on a diet of dry kibble, and as he started to get older, things like him not being able to jump up on things any more, and being stiffer first thing in the morning and on cold nights didnt seem like anything other than "what happens as they get older" according to Beulah.

How we helped

Beulah attended one of our recent raw feeding talks, and at first was a bit aprehensive about changing Lachy's diet after such a long time. We discussed a few options with her on how she could get started. To make things easy, we set her up with a weeks worth of meals, done into meal sized bags.

The Results

At first, Beulah didn't notice any changes in Lachy, it wasnt until she got a visit from a friend "we were sitting on the couch watching TV, when all of a sudden this little dog jumped up and sat next to us" says Beulah, something he hadn't been able to do for a couple of years. He was suddenly a lot more lively and active. He was also no longer showing any interest in human food, and was a lot more excited about meal times.

You guys are awesome and I'm always recommending you to others, and not just local, I tell all my contacts in NZ, and even one in Belgium when they switched to raw diet for their dog. They used your website for information :).

Starting a raw food diet for your companion from teh day you collect him as an 8 week old puppy is very scary, you MUST get it right otherwise his bones etc may suffer at their most crucial growing time. You guys made it SO INCREDIBLY EASY for me! I dont even have to think about it, you do it all for me. I did all the research etc before I got Neo, so I was pretty clued up, but theres always the worry that he may be lacking something in his diet. With you guys organizing Neos food, and packaging it in the right weights, it couldnt be easier. So THANKYOU!! YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!

I have not shopped personally as there is no Woofles that I am aware of near my district. I hav had questions answered by Woofles and have acted on their advice especially in respect to travelling with an oversensitive dog - now using natural calming drops - which has assisted greatly
